Born in Athens, Georgia, Dr. Smith completed his undergraduate degree at
Emory University and obtained his medical degree at Morehouse School of
Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. His training at the Ochsner Medical Foundation
in New Orleans has given him a well-rounded basis in general ophthalmology.
Since his arrival in Southwest Florida in 1998, Dr. Smith has strived to continue the highest quality eyecare as set forth by his father-in-law Dr. Cecil C. Beehler.
Dr. Smith is a board certified ophthalmologist and is licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia and Alabama. He brings to the practice the most modern techniques and state-of-the-art technology in cataract and glaucoma surgery. Because your vision is important, Dr. Smith spends time with each patient, personally addressing your questions and concerns. Being a diabetic himself, Dr. Smith specializes in the diagnostic and treatment of diabetic eye diseases. He brings a special aspect to this portion of his practice and is comfortable discussing any aspect of diabetes.
Dr. Smith lives in the relaxed rural community of Alva with his wife and 3 daughters. He is very active with his daughter's school activities and the Parent and Teacher Association.
